AI- Today’s Hot Topic: Every now and then there is something exciting happens across the globe. Today’s hot topic is Artificial Intelligence or AI. And, as usual with the human nature, some are excited and others are feeling anxiety and so on and so forth.
I remember the time of late 80s and early 90s with the IT boom, there was similiar atmosphere and feeling. And, again in late 90s, the worry for Y2K started and again same atmosphere and feeling. And, at the time of Y2K anxiety, one of my colleauges was worried what would happen to his money / deposit in the bank if they are not able to find the cure for Y2K fixing. Ultimately, IT sector came up with the solution and life is smooth and better now.
The point I am trying to make is with the advancement in technology, disruption will keep happening time and again. So, be positive and optimistic than stressed and anxious.
AI Definition: On Google search I found this definition of AI:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems capable of performing complex tasks that historically only a human could do, such as reasoning, making decisions or solving problems.
AI Threats: Let’s start with the AI threats and challenges so that we are ready to find the solutions. Lots of companies have started using AI in their business particularly in the area of analysis, on-line customer service and support etc. And, as a result, lots of lay offs are starting to happen in various industries. Anytime something revolutionary comes, there is a disruption and some chaos. This is called transition phase.
And, in my view, situation will eventually stabilise and life goes on for the better future.
AI Opportunities: On the positive side, AI is a tool of speed, precision and accuracy. AI is and will be of enormous help in the medical science- diagnostic and treatment. And, also in execution of hazardous activities like having a robot doing fire extinguishing in a burning building, welding or any other difficult areas. These activities are meant to give safety to human lives that too free of sickness and disabilities.
Self-Driving Technology or Robotaxi: Another AI revolution is happening in the area of self-driving cars or robotaxis technology. In my view, the ultimate objective of any progress or revolution of growth is helping mankind and at the same time maximisation of profits and in the same order. However, some accidents due to self-driving cars have resulted in loss of lives or major injuries. Here are my thoughts to provide safeguard to human lives during the transition phase:
– Ideally these self-driving cars be run on dedicated roads like HOVs;
– There should be maximum speed limit of not exceeding 60kms per hour until the technology has proved itself for a considerable length of time
Logical Analysis: I like to do logical analysis of activites or inventions disrupting the current scenario. Here is my take on the AI innovation:
– Lots of jobs being created in the AI – chip manufacturing and software;
– Lots of jobs starting to vanish in the areas of on-line customer support, accounting, human resources, analysts and other corporate jobs. Primarily loss of jobs for now is in white collar jobs (by broad definition).
– Net result of above two is that jobs lost are more than the job gained due to high speed and accuracy of AI tools. It means, lots of companies will be generating exhorbitant profits.
– And, these profits will get ditributed to shareholders or employees of these companies. This will give rise to spending habits like luxurious living, travelling and higher spending on shopping, wine and dine.
– This means now the job opportunities will shift to these sectors:
– Retail shopping, restaurants, airlines, hotel industy, gaming industry and any other industry which require spenders – will be the next job hubs.
– Professions like lawyers, legal assistants and para legal jobs will be in great demand. With the AI use in media and entrtainment industries, this will give rise to lots of civil and copyright infingement cases a lot.
And, at the end of the day, in few years, we will settle down and happy as before AI or any other innovation.
Life is like half glass of water- some find it half empty and some find it half full. Choice is yours how you want to feel it.
